Sustainability Policy Developments November 2024

SGV is pleased to share the latest Sustainable Reporting Developments, our monthly update on regulatory and policy developments shaping the way companies communicate with stakeholders. On 12 November, the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) released the International Standard on Sustainability Assurance (ISSA) 5000: General Requirements for Sustainability Assurance Engagements. The ISSA 5000 standard was endorsed on the same day by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).

Sustainability Policy Developments October 2024

SGV is pleased to share the latest Sustainable Reporting Developments, our monthly update on regulatory and policy developments shaping the way companies communicate with stakeholders. On 25 September, the IFRS Foundation published its Voluntary Application Guide for entities to voluntarily apply the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards in jurisdictions where they are not already required to do so. The Guide is intended to help entities communicate comparable and reliable information to investors.

Sustainability Reporting Developments September 2024

SGV is pleased to share the latest Sustainable Reporting Developments, our monthly update on regulatory and policy developments shaping the way companies communicate with stakeholders. On 16 September, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) announced the release of its draft sustainability disclosure standards for public consultation. The HKICPA is proposing “full convergence” of its standards with the ISSB IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 standards. The standards are proposed to take effect 1 August 2025.

On 28 May, the IFRS Foundation announced that, as of that date, more than 20 jurisdictions, representing more than half of both global GDP and global GHG emissions, plan to substantially or fully align their sustainability disclosure standards to the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards.

Sustainability Reporting Developments May 2024

On 2 May, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) published joint interoperability guidance outlining the degree of alignment between ISSB Standards and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The publication offers help for entities starting with either set of standards to achieve compliance with both sets of standards.

Following the recent World Economic Forum at Davos, Emmanuel Faber, the Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), reflected that we are at a “regulatory tipping point for introducing sustainability standards.” In the Davos panel discussion, Faber said that “the momentum needs to be maintained” to establish “that global baseline” of mandatory reporting standards.
