SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV) celebrates its 75th Anniversary this 2021. Established in 1946 as a one-man accounting firm by its esteemed founder Mr. Washington SyCip, SGV has grown to become a pre-eminent name in the Philippine and global business community. Despite the numerous challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, SGV continues to sustain its Purpose to nurture future leaders and enable businesses, with the long-term ambition to help create a better Philippines for all Filipinos.
As part of the celebrations, SGV has developed a commemorative logo to be used this year. The logo is designed to look back on SGV’s history and legacy referencing the first three buildings where the SGV office was located. The design uses elements from those building to create an iconic visual representation that emphasizes SGV’s deep and strong foundations, as well as its continuing drive to build on the values and achievements of the past to continue rising to even greater heights. The tagline “Above and Beyond” emphasizes this upward-looking ambition while also highlighting SGV’s track record of going the extra mile to deliver value-added services to all its clients and stakeholders.
Concurrently, SGV will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founder, Mr. Washington SyCip. WS, as he was fondly called by many, is remembered as one of the pioneers of the Filipino accounting profession. WS is credited not only for founding SGV & Co., but also institutions like the Asian Institute of Management in 1966 and organizations like the Philippine Business for Social Progress in 1970. After his retirement from SGV in 1996, he also continued to sit on the board of numerous top local and international corporations. WS believed deeply in Filipino talent and potential, and his personal advocacies included worthy causes, such as basic public education, poverty reduction, microfinance, entrepreneurship, and the arts.
